There is so much I don’t know…

Some days I feel like I’ve got it all figured out.

I know what I need to do.  When I need to do it.  How it should be done.  Sometimes I even think I know what others should do.

Other days, I remember the truth…I honestly don’t know that much.

What I do know, I will use.  When I use what I know, I will learn new things.

What I learn, I will share.


If you share too, we’ll all learn more quickly.  It’s the power of team.  The power of social media; of “us” versus “me.”

It’s the power of our 8pm Warrior community.

  1. Great point Aaron- it is easy to get caught up in what you know and what you want to post online, but this is all supposed to be a two way street. I get the most out of social media when I remember to listen as much as I talk. There are amazing people out there- I just need to remember to reach out to them!

What shall I share?  How about a recommendation?  If you haven’t had the opportunity to experience education for Clinical Documentation Improvement, I would encourage you to do so.  I’ve been fortunate enough to go through the training with both DCBA and JA Thomas.  The CDI program may seem costly at first; however, revenue will be significantly increased with proper implementation of a functional CDI program.

    I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with the CDI specialists to ensure the most accurate picture of a patient’s hospital stay.  Having the correct documentation BEFORE discharge will not only reduce need for post-discharge queries by the coder, it will improve your revenue cycle greatly and it will increase the accuracy of severity of illness.

    The better your documentation, the better your patient’s care.  One last thought…..all CFOs know that “time is money.”  It makes much more sense to implement a CDI program to increase revenue than trying to cut corners to meet budget…….every CFO’s dream.

  3. The little things…little to you, big to me! Assume no one knows what you know the way that you know it, share it,  and come hungry to the social media feast to be filled up!

    My mentor says that the more you know, the more you realize what you do not know. This makes a ton of sense to me. Life is about learning. Some of us choose to share what we learn with others, helping to build knowledge and hopefully avoid repeated mistakes. It honestly is a huge gift. 

    Keep learning. Keep sharing.

    It is a great reminder because sometimes I let insecurity hold me back. Thoughts creep in like “They don’t want to
    learn from me. I don’t have it all figured out. I’m no expert. I’m not good
    with words and thinking on my feet… what if they ask me questions!”  But that is actually a very self-focused and silly perspective, right? 

    If I only stopped and
    realized the power of keeping a long-term perspective… no one has to be perfect before they start sharing. Not me, not the people I need to invest in, not the people we ALL need
    to collectively impact. We just need to start sharing… just as I am
    flaws and all… and grow from there. And I think doing it with
    brave vulnerability, and not setting the tone for perfection first is really
    inspirational in letting people know that they too have gifts to share… that
    they are capable of significant things and that they are more influential than
    they give themselves credit for. Just start sharing.

    1. Krista, you’re not alone.  I feel insecurities too.  Just look at my birthday video.   Spent years thinking people don’t want to learn from me.  Too young.  Too many mistakes.  Too many smarter people.  Too this…too that.  Blah, blah, blah.

      We all need to learn from each other.
